Juneathon day 1: first open water swim, and some circuits

Today's Juneathon activity started pretty early; soon after 6:30am, me and my friend Karen were in a car heading over to near Egham for some open water swimming in Heron Lake. It was a lovely sunny morning, if a bit nippy. When we got there, it was heaving! The lake was big enough that once in, though, that you wouldn't have realised.

I had forgotten how it felt getting into such cold water, swooshing the icy stuff down the front of the wetsuit and setting off! (I heard the number 14C mentioned). It took me about 10 minutes to be able to breathe out properly with my face in the water - the cold properly took my breath away. It was a great fun session, though; we did about 30 mins or so, and I couldn't really say how far we went. A pleasure to be back in the lake, though, definitely. And we even made it back in time for Mrs H's yoga class at 9!

Then, at 11, it was time for circuits in Hervines Park with Wild Training. We are doing a phase of high intensity interval training, known as Tabata. We worked in sets of 8x20 secs of eye-popping activity, allowing 10 secs rest in between each of the 8 intervals. We alternated between sprinting and "rip training" (this sort of thing) - 3 sets of each, plus a final half-set. The workout was made a bit easier and more enjoyable my having Mrs H and the kids spend the hour in the children's play park in Hervines Park, right next to where we were training. And, to top it all, friends of ours then came past and stopped to talk, with their Cockapoo of the kind we get in two weeks..! Yikes.

I'm not quite sure how much running I'm actually going to be able to do for Juneathon! My calf has something rather odd and painful going on with it, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that lots of foam rolling etc will sort it out sooner rather than later.

Anyway, my Juneathon total so far is:
Swimming: about 30 mins ish
Circuits: 1 hour, including running totalling 1.31 miles in 11:49
