Orchestra and travel (janathon day 26)

Another busy day, good fun! Lots happening at work, definitely keeping me interested. Then this evening orchestra resumed after the Christmas break. This was the first rehearsal for the concert I'm playing a solo in, but thankfully we didn't play that piece.
My son is continuing a road trip round some of the countries on the south end of Africa. We are getting a few photos back, but I think most of them will return with him when they get back - he borrowed my SLR and I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
We were a bit worried about being able to stay vaguely in contact with him. The idea came up that it might be handy to have some kind of tracker / communication device for him. I hired such a device for the duration of the trip - a rather neat little thing it turned out to be, called a Garmin inReach Mini 2, which we hired from Track Trail.
The device is the size of a very small phone, and is basically a combined GPS tracker and Iridium satellite data terminal. It sends a location periodically whether there's a phone signal or not, and can send and receive short text messages. We can see his location and track on a map, so now various family members are following his progress across the countries with interest, and he's able to message us when he is out of phone service (which he has been for the last two days). Glad I thought about this in time to make it happen!
What there hasn't been time for today was a visit to the gym, sadly. Boo. I'm having to play my second ace card of Janathon, ie twenty sit-ups.
Janathon entry: 20 sit-ups
