Road trip

A short post today, as today has rather run out of control, and now it is late.

With my dad not being terribly well, it was decided that an emergency visit to my parents was required. My mum has been having quite a time trying to hold the fort, and some moral and practical support was required. So with my daughters in tow, I headed down the M4 to visit them in the West Country, on a road trip that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the header picture for this post.

Although there was a fair amount of traffic on the roads, I can't really complain as the 203 mile round trip took a total of four hours to drive. Not bad for the Chilterns to near Bath and back, especially during a working day and returning at commuter time.

We were only able to stay for a few hours, but I think it helped a lot emotionally. Even though we are back again there soon, on balance I think it was better that we went than if we had not.

One plus side of the road trip was that we were able to share some music recommendations. Two bands that seem to score highly in our family are Tame Impala and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. I particularly like the song Rattlesnake. There's something about the microtonal tuning of the instruments and singing that really appeals to me. We are so used to being constrained by Western classical tunings, that hearing different pitches used intentionally is a pleasure.

My intention to totally nail TypeScript and Jest haven't quite gone to plan yet. I did make a start before events overtook me, and I've listened to an awful lot of discussion on the subject while in the car, but this will have to wait until tomorrow now, as it is time for bed.

In other news - what's been up on the fediverse today? My calckey.social instance has been mostly unresponsive, and my mastodon.xyz instance has entirely disappeared. Weird! It's really been one of those weeks.
