Cornwall

It is a curious paradox that many of the most lovely places are also the least accessible. Norfolk is a beautiful county, for instance, and the lack of motorways there is in my view not a coincidence. As it turns out, the same can be said to some degree for Cornwall.
The drive here from near London took about five and a half hours. About half of the journey was through really hideous rain - probably the worst I've had on the M4. Then the last part in particular entailed squeezing down increasingly narrow tracks until we reached our destination.
We've been really unexpectedly lucky with the weather, though. We went to some local coastal villages and had a very pleasant time drinking coffee in the sun - which was pretty mandatory after the fight through the small lanes to get there, after getting stuck and having to reverse back up a lane due to not one but two caravans coming the other way.
In the afternoon we went to visit Cabilla Cornwall, a spectacular retreat venue where Ellie is running an event later in the year. We were lucky enough to get a two-hour tour of the site, which includes a temperate rainforest containing beautiful trees, views and streams. Perhaps I'll share some pictures over the next few days. It is a remarkable place, with exciting plans for environmentally beneficial projects. They're going to have a great time at the retreat!
Anyway, sleep now - which also features not being near the kitchen or packs of biscuits...
