Juneathon day 19: circuits, and cockapoo preparation!

After a busy day at work, what's better than to settle down to ... an hour of high-intensity intervals with Wild Training?! It was hot out there in Hervines Park, and I was slightly at sixes and sevens when I arrived, as my 9yo daughter had her brownie meeting in the same park, throwing our usual pattern for the day. So after dropping her off, I legged it over to our special place by the playground.

After a warm-up lap of the cricket pitch, and some stretching and twisting exercises, we set off. It was TABATA again: 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, 8 rounds. Using that approach, we worked through:

  • Battle ropes - double-handed slams
  • Sprint runs - although mine were more jogs than sprints, as I'm too nervous of doing something to my calf again
  • Battle ropes - bent-over peck flies (or something - bend over forwards, and flap your arms like a bird trying to take off!)
  • Kettle bells - alternating squats and lunges with a kettle-bell press
  • Battle ropes and kettle bells - the bell to one shoulder, holding a slight squat, with the other hand whipping the rope
  • Sprint runs
  • And then a final set of "down-ups" - basically, burpees, but with a press-up when you're down...

The whole thing had me dripping with sweat, and gulping down water like my life depended on it - which, perhaps, it did! Oh boy am I glad that's over now. Not least to give me a few final minutes to prepare for ... our puppy, who we are picking up tomorrow! Our house is being taken over by dog paraphernalia, and the children are getting extremely excited. Our youngest has been counting down the "sleeps"; no counting left tomorrow morning! Very exciting.

Juneathon activity: 1 hour of horrifyingly hot circuits (and some foam rolling)
