Janathon day 15: "core" blimey!

Today's Janathon effort had some definite extra "get up and go" about it.

For a start, I was booked onto my circuits class, which was a good session and extremely core-intensive (hence the dodgy pun title). Today I thought I would describe a bit more about what we do at Wild Training. Every week the programme changes, but today we had a mini-circuit, in the icy cold with a clear dark sky and under a crescent moon, with us moving between three stations, each turn being 4 minutes:

  1. One hand holding a parallette in press-up position, the other rowing a kettlebell, 10 on each side, then press-ups to failure. Then repeat
  2. Multi-planar barbell moves (lunges, squats, cleans, jumps and so on), changing each minute
  3. A different mat exercise each minute, from: arms-over-head leg raises; sit-ups; plank; and mountain climber

The group is very good company, which makes the sessions that bit more enjoyable: it must be something about sharing adversity. I gather the sense of well being is a common experience, though, after reading an interesting article about group exercise in general. The freezing temperatures and ice soon go out of the mind, though, once the blood is flowing. And certainly, by the end, my core really felt the consequences.

I had also wanted to do a run all day, but circumstances had foiled me at every turn. After circuits, though, the chance arose, so I took it. Although I had to deal with a "Hodson support line" issue by phone, the run itself was otherwise undisturbed. Running through the crackling frost in the dark (I had forgotten my head torch) was a pleasure; all the Janathon running seems to be making it feel easier and smoother. Despite the phone interruption, I did 2.45 miles in 22:00, and enjoyed every step of it.

Distance: 2.45 miles
Time: 22:00
Circuits: 1 hour

Today was the about the half-way mark for Janathon, so here are my statistics so far, from Fetch Everyone:

Running: 31.49 miles in 4:43:01
Circuits: 7 hours
Cycling: 6.42 miles in 26:04
Yoga: 01:30
Walking: 2 miles in 29:15
