Janathon day 4: walk through the fog

Sunday, the day before a week of work and school: family time. A friend had suggested a group walk in the morning, and we thought it might be fun to walk from the field below Shardeloes House up to the Red Lion in Little Missenden, and back. There were 9 of us in total, and we had a very good stroll through the fields in that direction.
At the Amersham end, the Remembrance Day installation was still there above the cricket field. Hundreds of crosses poked out of the freezing ground into the fog, with each one representing tens of thousands of people who died in the Great War.
At the Red Lion pub there was a roaring fire, and we warmed our toesies and noses there, clutching a nice, hot cup of coffee. What a lovely, friendly pub! I hope we'll be back soon.
Then we headed back. The temperature was creeping up to about 2C now, and the fog had lifted a lot. In the car park, when we got back, we also bumped into some fellow Wild Trainers, who aren't always easy to spot with their clothes on, as it were..!
By the time we were back at the car, we had walked 3.8 miles: not with any great speed, as we had 5 kids with us, but most fun nevertheless! As it turns out, my FitBit tells me that I've walked nearly 7.5 miles today, including that outing, with more than 16,000 steps.
Walking is extremely under-rated. It may be rather lower intensity than the traditional "exercise" forms, but it is extremely good for you, and great for your mental state. The Chilterns are also a great place to live if you enjoy it! We are hoping to do a lot more of this over the coming months.
